12/13/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis weeks student of the week is Mari Cole, aka, me! I was born in New York, August 16th, 2006. I’ve lived there for three years before coming to North Carolina. I am an eighth grader at Bradford prep. My favorite thing about school is her friends, and my least favorite thing about school is having to do homework. In my opinion, it’s kind of a waste of time, because I have more things I’d rather be doing than extra work. My favorite class is E.L.A. And my best class is also E.L.A. I think it's the easiest class to do vs. everything else. This would be my second year at Bradford. Before coming to Bradford, I went to Ace Academy Charter School. I’m very happy that I came here, it's much better than Ace.
My favorite thing to do is to draw and to sing, even though I’m not all that great at it. However, I still enjoy doing it. My favorite colors are anything pastel, but if I had to pick an actual color, I would say blue. Those are some of my favorite things. Some of my least favorite things are definitely math. I also hate it when people interrupt me, when people ask me a lot of pointless questions, and when people burp. I know its a natural thing, but I really hate it. My biggest fears are spiders, and performing in front of a big crowd. I’m very tame fright. I have a younger sister. She is two years younger than me. We fight sometimes, and she can be kind of annoying, but other than that, we get along pretty well. I also have a grey tabby cat. He’s very chubby and fat, but I love him. However, my dream pet is a teacup Pomeranian. They are so cute and fluffy, I've always wanted one. I like to travel. I've been to Florida, Tennessee, Jamaica, and New York. I go to New York every summer to visit family. However, I've always wanted to go to France, and now I really want to go to Fiji. I hope you enjoyed reading about Mari Cole.

11/21/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis weeks student of the week is Samantha Snyder. She was born in Buffalo, New York, July 21, 2006. She lived there for one year. That’s awesome, because I was born in New York too. To be more specific, I was born in New York. She’s been in Bradford for three years. She’s an eighth grader too. Her favorite thing about our school is being with her friends. This was a pretty obvious answer, but I asked her why and she said “Because my friends are like a second family to me.” Her least favorite thing about school is all the work the teachers give us. It’s true, we get a lot of work and it is really tiring. She hates doing work. Both her favorite, and her best subject is art class. Samantha loves to draw. I do too, it's really fun. Even if your not that good at it. Like I just said, Samantha loves to draw, but she also likes to sing. Her biggest accomplishment was trying cheerleading. Her favorite food is cheeseburgers, and her favorite color is aqua. She hates it when people ignore her. I hate it when people ignore me too. It’s really annoying, and it's rude. She has a younger brother, a dog, and two cats. However, the pet that she really wants is a horse. Now that we have talked about the things that she likes, and the things she hates, let's go back to talking about education. Samantha wants to go to UNCC for college. UNCC is a great school. After finishing college, she wants to move to New York. New York is amazing. I've been there many times to visit family. In fact, I was even born in New York City. I've even been to Times Square. But that’s enough about me, let's talk more about New York! Also known as the Big Apple, and the Empire State, New York is the third most populous state in the United States after California and Texas. It’s also home to The Statue of Liberty and Times Square. There are plenty of fun things to do and see in New York. I hope you enjoyed learning about Samantha Snyder. By: Mari.C 11/8/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis week, we’re talking about Mariana Diez, who also goes by Mari. Born October 6, 2006 in Rhode Island, Mariana is a seventh grader at Bradford. It’s now her third year here. I asked her what her favorite thing about school was, and she said “Lunch, because I get to eat.” I totally agree with that. Other than dismissal, I, and probably a lot of other people would say other than dismissal, lunch is the best time of day. Her least favorite thing about school is homework, because it takes too long to do. She likes math, and is also best at math. She is also good at gymnastics. In fact, she likes sports in general, and her biggest accomplishment is getting first place in her dance competition. Not only does she like sports, but some of her favorite things are eating ice cream, and the color pink. However, Mariana hates when people scratch their nails on their jeans. I’m not sure why. It’s kind of a weird pet peeve, but I guess she finds it annoying. She has four siblings in total. A brother, and three sisters. She doesn’t have any pets, but if she did, she’d want a unicorn. Mariana wants to go to Duke University when she graduates from high school. Once she gets her four year bachelor's degree, she’s going to be an engineer. That’s understandable, and it sounds like fun. After college, she wants to move to Bachelor Island, which is located in Washington. I mentioned earlier that Mariana is from Rhode Island. She actually lived there for nine years before coming here. When I asked if she can speak another language, she said “I can speak a bit of Spanish.”

10/22/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis weeks student of the week is Brooke Avery. She was born on March 20, 2007 here in Charlotte. It seems that a lot of people were born in Charlotte because most of the time I ask someone where they were born, they say Charlotte. She is in seventh grade and has been here since third grade, so she’s been at Bradford for four years. She says her favorite thing about school are the teachers because they are nice. Well, for the most part at least. The thing she hates most about school is homework, which I honestly have to say is probably almost every kids nightmare. It’s so boring. Her best subject is ela, and her favorite subject is science. I’d say ela is pretty easy, but science can be difficult sometimes. Brooke loves horses. In fact, one of her hobbies is riding horses, and her biggest accomplishment was learning how to trot on the horse. She loves macaroni and cheese, and her favorite colors are teal and black. She has an older brother, as well as four pets! She has a turtle, two cats, and a horse. However four pets aren’t enough. Her dream pet is a sugar glider. A sugar glider is in the marsupial family and is like a flying squirrel. It likes to eat sweet sugary things like sap and nectar. They got their name from the food they eat, and their ability to glide in the air. They are so adorable! Her favorite thing to do in her free time is to hang out with friends. She hates drama, it's so petty and annoying. I’d have to agree, even though there’s drama literally almost everywhere you look. She’s also afraid of heights, which is a reasonable fear. I asked if she could change one thing about herself, what would it be. She said it would be to not be as skinny.
10/1/2019 1 Comment Student of the WeekMiriam Bock is this week’s student of the week. Miriam was born January 16, 2007 inCharlotte. Charlotte has been her home for her entire life. She’s been outside of charlotte to many places before. Going outside the state, or even the country is pretty exciting. She really wants to visit California someday. I bet it's because of the great weather, or the awesome beaches. California is definitely a great place. For college, she wants to go to Appalachian State University. It’s located in North Carolina, so she won't need to leave the state. App state has some great majors, including: Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Health Professions and Related Programs; Education; Parks, Recreation, Leisure, and Fitness Studies; and Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs. She doesn’t want to move after college, and she doesn’t know what job she wants after college. However she’s still young and has plenty of time to figure it out. After all, she’s still in seventh grade, and she still has five more years until college. Like I just said, Miriam is a seventh grader at Bradford, and has been here for two years. Her best subject is ela, and her favorite subject is also ela. Her favorite thing about school is lunch. I’m not that surprised. The last student of the week said lunch was her favorite too. Her least favorite thing about school is math. I personally have to agree. Some people might like it, but I guess we’re just not math people. She says she has no hobbies or awesome accomplishments. I’m sure she does, but I guess she doesn’t want to say. While we’re on the subject of favorite things, her favorite colors are teal and coral, her favorite food is funnel cake, and her favorite thing to do is sleep. I can say that’s a bit lazy, but I cant judge because I sleep a lot too. Miriam hates it when people burp. To be honest, I do to. I hate it when people burp. I know its a natural thing and it can't be helped, but still. Miriam has 1 sister named Julia, and already has a pet , but her dream pet is some kind of dog. She doesn’t know what specific dog yet, but just a dog in general. Dogs are just so much fun to have, but are also a lot of work to take care of. I hope you enjoyed reading about Miriam Bock. 9/25/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThe student we’re acnologing this week is Azari Withers. She was born here in Charlotte, North Carolina, February 24, 2007 and has lived here for twelve years. Staying inside the state is kinda boring. Azari’s been to Atlanta, and wishes she could go to Florida and California, because of the nice weather they have. The sunshine state is home to awesome beaches and the world’s best known theme parks, Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld. I can understand why she would want to go. I go to Florida every spring break, and it's awesome.
Speaking of traveling, she wants to go to Harvard for college. Harvard is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After college, she wants to move to California because she’s always wanted to go there. The golden apple is home to Natural beauty, cutting-edge technology, vibrant food culture, movies and music, Disneyland, and great beaches. California would be a great place to live. Once she leaves Harvard, she wants to be an entrepreneur so she can have her own business, and run things her way. Azari can’t speak another language, but if she could, she would like to learn Spanish. Lucky for her, Bradford has Spanish classes. She’s a seventh grader, and has been at Bradford for two years. Her best class is ela, and her favorite class Social Studies, because she likes learning about the states, and other things about the world. Her least favorite thing about school is homework. Nobody likes homework. If you ask a kid what they think about homework, they would most likely say it’s Half Of My Energy Wasted On Random Knowledge. Her favorite thing about school is lunchtime. When I asked her what her favorite thing about school was, I was expecting her to say something about friends, or her favorite class or something, but I can't really blame her for that answer, because to be completely honest, I probably would have said the same thing. Some things Azari enjoys doing are basketball, soccer and eating delicious salad. She also likes the color blue, being loud and screaming. I thought it was a bit of a weird answer at first, but lots of people do this. She also likes the famous female rapper, Cardi B. Her favorite song is Badak yellow by Cardi B. However, Azari hates it when aggravating people bother her. Things like trying too hard, interrupting, being self absorbed, or constantly lying are all things to annoy her. She has four siblings in total. Two girls, and two boys. She has no pets, but if she did, she would like a bunny because they are cute, fluffy, and cuddly. I hope you enjoyed reading about Azari Withers. 9/23/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis weeks student of the week is Olivia Whicher. She was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2007. She was born in Charlotte, and has actually lived here for eleven years. Olivia has been at Bradford for two years, and she is a seventh grader. School can be very hard and tiring in my opinion, and apparently Olivia thinks so too, because her favorite time of the day is study hall because it's time to go home. I guess it does make sense because after a long day of hard work, we all want to go home. Her least favorite thing about school is gym, because of the weather. It’s always either too hot, or too cold, and I agree. I personally hate the cold and would pick the heat any time of the day. However, thank goodness we're getting a gym soon, which will be done at either the end of January or the beginning of February. With the new gym coming soon, we won't have to worry about this problem. Her favorite class is science because you get to work with different chemicals, even though they don’t really give you chemicals to do labs with in the seventh grade. She loves to do art, and most of all, painting is her favorite thing to do. When I asked her what her biggest accomplishment is, oddly enough, she said it was being born. It’s not necessarily the reply I was expecting, but I guess it's her choice. Her favorite color is rose gold, which is such a beautiful color. It’s one of my favorite colors too. Her favorite food is also fried chicken. Who doesn’t love fried chicken? Since we’ve talked about her favorite things, let's talk about her pet peeve. We all have pet peeves, whether it’s slamming doors, or listening to others talking too much. Olivia's pet peeve is when people ask her obvious and annoying questions because they already know the answer, but they still ask anyways. Olivia has a little sister and no pets, but if she did have a pet, It would be a German Shepard. I was a bit curious as to why a German Shepard in specific, so when I asked why, she said “I want one because they are very loyal.” Which is very true. German Shepards are strong, courageous and obedient. They are known for their tenacity, intelligence, loyalty and focus. However, a German Shepard isn’t cheap. They can cost from around three hundred to nine hundred dollars. After high school, Olivia wants to graduate from Harvard. Harvard is a great school. It has about six thousand seven hundred undergraduate students and about fifteen thousand two hundred postgraduate students. After college, Olivia would like to move to Hawaii because it's like a dream paradise. When she grows up, she wants to be a lawyer. She can speak a bit of Spanish, but she would really like to learn to speak French. I’ve always been interested in France, so I asked her why, and she said “because it's a beautiful language.” In fact, she would like to visit Paris one day. However, she has already been to Florida, Virginia, and South Carolina. I hope you enjoyed reading about Olivia Whicher. 9/17/2019 0 Comments Student of the WeekThis week, we are celebrating Sarah Murphy. Born in South Africa on March 28, 2007, Sarah is a seventh grader here at Bradford Prep. It’s now her sixth year here. I asked her what her favorite thing about school was, and she said “Seeing my friends is the best thing about school.” I totally agree with that. Being with your friends definitely makes going to school more fun. However, being with friends isn’t the only thing she likes about school Broadcasting is her favorite class, and social studies is her best subject. Social Studies isn’t the only thing she’s good at doing. In fact, she likes swimming, and her biggest accomplishment is her thirty six-second butterfly stroke. Not only does she like swimming, but some of her favorite things include eating cheeseburgers, the color purple, and working with kids. However, Sarah hates slamming doors. Sarah has no siblings or pets, but if she did, she would want a hippo. It’s a pretty weird pet to have, but it's kinda cool. Sarah wants to go to UNC Wilmington when she graduates from high school. Once she gets her four year bachelor's degree, she’s going to be a teacher because she wants to work with kids and help them grow. Wilmington is awesome. From the movie/TV, to the Battleship USS, Wilmington has so many great things to experience. This is partly why Sarah wants to go to college in Wilmington. Actually, she wants to be by the beach, so that’s why she wants to go to school there. I mentioned earlier that Sarah is from South Africa. To be more specific, she was born in Pretoria, South Africa. She actually lived there for four years before owing here. When I asked if she wants to speak another language, she said “I want to learn to speak African so I can understand what my parents say to me.” I guess that’s understandable. Traveling can be pretty fun. Sarah has gone to England, and is going to Germany for Christmas. She’s been to other countries before, but the one place she really wants to go, is Bora Bora. Why you ask? Well, when I asked that same question, she said “I have seen a lot of beautiful pictures of Bora Bora, and it seems interesting.” At first when I heard this, I didn’t think much of it, but after I looked up pictures of it, I was so amazed. Sarah was absolutely right, it's a very beautiful place. Bora Bora has a gorgeous turquoise lagoon, stunning white sandy beaches, and awesome resorts. Now I wanna go too, but it's five thousand eight huderedeightyone miles away. We all like music. Whether it's Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, or even Beyoncé, we all like someone. Sara’s favorite singer is p!nk, and her song Walk Me Home is one of her personal favorites. I hope you enjoyed reading and learning about Sarah Murphy. Credits to RAND Corporation for the photo.
